As part of FilmAid's 9th Annual Film Festival in Kenya, the festival centered on the theme "Home Away From Home", displaying the unique stories from young refugee filmmakers who have taken part in FilmAid's Training Program. This festival gives filmmakers from all over the world the opportunity to share stories that express what "Home" means to them.

This week, we're highlighting Joelle Hangi, a 21-year-old refugee living in the Kakuma Refugee Camp. This year's film festival screened her film Home Sweet Home, a documentary about how refugees living in Kakuma have made it their home and are using all the opportunities available to make a living. As Joelle says, "Film is all about dreams."

Joelle recognizes that film has the ability to teach and heal, providing an outlet for cathartic release. By showing others how refugees in Kakuma have made it their home, the film not only tells the stories of refugees in Kakuma, but also provides awareness on the issues that refugees face every day.
